For immediate release:
LOS ANGELES, CA (September 15, 2020) -- On October 10th, 2020, the Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art (SCWCA) will present “A Necessary ConversaXon” as the opening online event for the “Common Ground” exhibiXon that runs from October 3rd through November14 at Embed Gallery in Chatsworth Curators Suvan Geer and Sandra Mueller will engage with the exhibiXon arXsts on how their diverse artworks speak to the reality of the earth as a shared yet damaged landscape. Geer and Mueller were asked to organize this exhibiXon by SCWCA in early 2020 in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day and the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. They are both long involved in the environmental and women’s arts communiXes of Los Angeles.

The Common Ground exhibiXon focuses on the planet earth as an ever-shi^ing poliXcized landscape of borders, migraXons, exclusions and omissions that is under pressing physical assault. As New York eco-arXst Allison Janae Hamilton recently said: ““The environment really is a story of people and lived experience; not just the science behind it all.” A full color catalogue is planned.

ParXcipaXng arXsts include Kim Abeles, Mariona Barkus, Sharon Barnes, Pilar CasXllo, Danielle Eubank, Samantha Fields, Suvan Geer/ S,tch in Time, Eloisa Guanlao, Ann Isolde, Sant Khalsa, Meg Madison Kaoru Mansour, Maryrose C. Mendoza, Sandra Mueller, Naida Osline, Pamela J. Peters, Sheila Pinkel, Sinan Leong Revell, Bonnie J. Smith / She Votes, Linda Vallejo and Gail Werner.

Related online programming includes a hands-on workshop “The Art of Here and tHere” with Kim Abeles on October 7th plus arXsts panels including “Why Do ArXsts Create Socio-PoliXcal images” led by Linda Vallejo on October 14th, “Making Art in An Unbalanced World” led by Suvan Geer on October 17th and “Making Community” with Sheila Pinkel and nonprofit leaders and youth on October 21st.
